Track and field
Francesca Green, a 5-foot-9 senior at Kamiakin High in Kennewick, has signed a national letter of intent to join Washington State women’s this fall.
“Fran is clearly the most versatile athlete in the state right now,” said WSU women’s coach Rob Cassleman. “She is going to fill a big need in our jumps area and will get duty in the sprint events too.”
Green, third cousin of NFL speedster Darrell Green, won the state 200-meter title in 24.94 seconds last spring. She also was runner-up in the 100 (12.04), high jump (5-foot-9) and long jump (19-1 1/2).
Green placed third in the long jump with a careerbest mark of 19 feet, 3 inches in the 1994 USA Junior National Meet in Jacksonville, Fla. She also had a personal high jump best of 5-10 last summer.
