These Pacifiers Come With A Guarantee

Janet Fullwood Mcclatchy News Service

What sleep-deprived parent of a newborn wouldn’t welcome a product guaranteed to stop the baby’s crying?

The distributors of a series of six musical tapes for infants make just such a claim - and offer a full refund if your squawking little one doesn’t quell the tears upon hearing a “Happy Baby” tape.

The six cassettes in the series include “Good Night,” “Good Morning,” “Nature,” “Beatles for Babies,” “Classics” and “Love Songs.” (Due in May: “Happy Baby Country” and “Happy Baby Mozart”).

Heavily orchestrated, with musicbox-like chimes tracing the melodies and gurgling baby sounds thrown in here and there for good measure, the arrangements to adult ears may sound super-syrupy, if innocuous. These tapes don’t play well outside the nursery, but there’s no denying their soothing quality.

Happy Baby music series (compact disk/casette tape; Benson Music Group, Nashville; $9.98 cassette, $13.98 CD).

Available in specialty and gift stores or from The Right Start catalog at (800) LITTLE-1 (800-548-8531).
