Thousands Protest Exploitation Of Kids
Demanding an end to child labor, thousands of children and other protesters marched through Lahore on Tuesday to commemorate the killing this month of 12-year-old activist Iqbal Masih.
About one-third of the 3,000 marchers were children, many of them workers in carpet-weaving factories and other industries that employ child laborers for wages as low as one rupee, or about 3 cents, a day.
Iqbal, who achieved international recognition for his activism, was gunned down April 17 in his village of Muridke, 22 miles northwest of Lahore.
