The U.S. Cycling Federation is considering a $1 million athlete bonus as an incentive for a gold-medal performance next summer in the men’s Olympic road race.

An estimated 15 cyclists, part of a training group vying for five Olympic team spots, would divide the winning purse.

Gianluca Bortolami, the World Cup cycling champ competing in the United States for the first time, scored a splitsecond prologue win in the Tour DuPont.
