Associated Press

Fighting for recognition as one of Mexico’s great champions, Miguel Angel Gonzalez takes up the cause against Marty Jakubowski in defense of his WBC lightweight crown June 2.

“I want to be remembered and be famous and be a part of the list of the greatest world champions Mexico has ever had,” Gonzalez said at a news conference Thursday to announce his 10th defense of the 135-pound crown he won nearly three years ago.

Gonzalez is 37-0. Jakubowski, of Whiting, Ind., is 83-1.

Also announced on the pay-for-view card in Ledyard, Conn., were three other world title bouts.

WBC featherweight (126 pounds) champion Alejandro Gonzalez of Mexico meets the No. 7-ranked contender Tony Green of Philadelphia.

In a bout that was just added to the card last week, WBC super bantamweight champion Hector AceroSanchez of Santo Domingo takes on Mexican veteran Daniel Zaragoza for his 122-pound crown.

The fourth title bout features WBO super bantamweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera of Mexico against Frank Toledo of Paterson, N.J.
