Post Falls Legion Team Loses District Title Game

Trail, British Columbia, captured its first Idaho District I American Legion baseball championship late Monday, defeating the Prairie Cardinals of Post Falls 10-5 in the title game in Lewiston.

The game was still being played when the newspaper went to press Monday night.

Prairie had secured a berth in the State AA Tournament earlier Monday with a 7-1 win over Sandpoint.

The Cardinals (29-26) will make their third straight trip to state under coach Darren Taylor.

Trail (31-10) and Prairie open state Saturday at Lewis-Clark State College’s Harris Field. Prairie opens against District III champion Pocatello (34-19) at 9 a.m., while Trail meets District II runner-up Treasure Valley of Ontario, Ore., at 12:30 p.m.

In other openers, District II champ Nampa takes on District III runnerup Idaho Falls at 4, followed by host Lewis-Clark (32-17) against Twin Falls (20-28), last year’s host, at 7:30.

Golf

Two Eastern Washington golfers, including Britney Holt of Spokane, have qualified for match play in the 47th U.S. Girls Junior Championships in Longmeadow, Mass.

Holt and Taya Battistella of Richland had 6-over-par 78s Tuesday for 36-hole totals of 159.
