We Bet It Won’t Last Another Nine Months

When she heard about boyfriend Hugh Grant’s arrest with a hooker, says Elizabeth Hurley, “I felt like I’d been shot.”

And when Grant himself called, she tells Barbara Walters on “20/20” tonight, “I ran out. I think I was - I think I was in shock.”

In her first interview since Grant’s arrest June 27, Hurley says: “I’d like to say that everything’s getting easier and easier. Falling into place. But it isn’t really.”

The couple never considered marriage before, she says, and certainly aren’t now.

“Some very well-meaning people have said to me now, ‘You should get married,”’ Hurley says. “That’s the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard in my life. You know, well, there’s never been a time in my life where I’ve been less inclined to get married so, you know, that doesn’t go down too well.”

Loose talk

“Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff, on television technology (in TV Guide): “The best thing about having a satellite dish is I can watch Letterman and Leno put down my shows for six hours straight if I tune it to different time zones.”

To her, Hugh must seem like one of the family

Elizabeth, the Queen Mother turns 95 today.

Sounds like things can’t get much lower

Grant, meanwhile, canceled his scheduled appearance Wednesday at the British premiere of his film “The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill And Came Down A Mountain” amid tabloid speculation that prostitute Divine Brown planned a surprise appearance.

Wet behind the ears? He’s all washed up

Following a string of duds (“The Nutcracker,” “Getting Even With Dad,” “Richie Rich”), Macaulay Culkin’s movie career is over at age 14, according to Entertainment Weekly. The magazine quotes one studio executive as saying Culkin “has no asking price right now. It’s a sign that his box office impact has subsided.”

She’s always giving everyone lots of lip

Madonna, meanwhile, is still flexing her celebrity muscle, going over the director’s head to Miramax executives to have a scene restored in her upcoming film “Four Rooms” in which she kisses her female juvenile-delinquent lover.

You wouldn’t call it a hard-driving career

Sandra Bullock, on the techno-nerd character she plays in “The Net”: “She’s not repressed. It’s just that her lifestyle is such that she doesn’t have to get out of her sweatpants very often. Which is a great lifestyle, especially if you don’t want to make the effort to brush your hair.”

His altitude was apparently above average

Kirk Douglas’ youngest son, Eric, already facing cocaine and drunk driving charges, was arrested after an airplane trip this week for fondling a flight attendant, running through the aisles, pushing the call buttons and insisting his dog ride in his lap.
