Deer Park Challenge Now Just Days Away
Starting next weekend, golfers have another challenge in the area - the Deer Park Golf and Country Club.
Sunday, some invited guests are scheduled to play the course, with the driving range opening next week daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The course will open for play next Friday.
“We’re going to allow 50 players a day on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays,” said pro Craig Schuh.
No carts will be allowed on the young turf, Schuh said.
“It’s in great shape, really, for a new golf course,” Schuh said. “The clubhouse isn’t done yet, but we’ll set up a little snack shop.”
The second nine holes may open late this season, but Schuh said it’s more likely they will wait until next spring to complete the loop.
The course is roughly 21 miles north of Spokane.
Fees are $9 for nine holes and $14 to go around twice.

A couple of good-cause golf tournaments are coming up:
The Fourth Annual Southwest Airlines/98 Kiss FM Golf Classic is set for Aug. 20 at The Fairways.
Proceeds will benefit Ogden Hall, a shelter for women and children.
The format is a four-person, bestball with a $45 entry fee including green fee and a barbecue. Prizes include a $10,000 hole-in-one payoff.
Call Mark Holman at 459-9800.
Also, St. Margaret’s Shelter for women and children will benefit from the Fifth Annual Bishop’s Golf Scramble Sept. 10 at Liberty Lake.
The $60 entry fee includes green fees, cart rental, a pro clinic, dinner and beverages.
