Loose talk

Brett Butler (“Grace Under Fire”), on why she’s writing her memoirs: “I’ve always been offended by the portrayal of me as some demonic outtake from a Tennessee Williams play, crawling up out of a swamp of debasement to attain fame.”

Kato Kaelin finally has a place to call his own.

The former O.J. Simpson houseguest is the new host of a daily two-hour talk radio show on Los Angeles station KLSX-FM.

“There’s been so much media about me being a surfer dude and a lot of other jabs,” said Kaelin. “I guess it’s time to prove myself, to let the people know, heck, I’ve got a brain.”

Kaelin’s co-host is a longtime friend, comedian Bob Hellman: “It’ll be like when buddies sit in an apartment and surf through the channels and sit and comment on real-life things, like dating, TV, movies. And hopefully, it’ll have a comic edge to it.”

And when curious callers ask about O.J., he says, “If I can answer questions I’m allowed to, I will. I’ve been admonished by the court not to discuss my testimony.”

Maybe Kato could give out gloves or something

Among the television talk hosts, reports TV Guide, David Letterman gives his guests T-shirts and hats as souvenirs, Jay Leno offers fruit baskets, Larry King provides clocks decorated with his logo and Greg Kinnear sends baskets of coffee and cookies.

He certainly was quite the canny promoter

The late Andy Warhol’s friends on Sunday will celebrate what would have been the 67th birthday of the pop artist who predicted everyone would enjoy 15 minutes of fame (which Kaelin certainly is stretching). Says painter/writer Ultra Violet: “People see everything in that little guy. He was very strange, a mystery, a sphinx within a riddle.”

We’re waiting for the Ultra Violet umbrella

Formerly famous rock star Prince, who’s since adopted an unpronounceable symbol as a name, is issuing a new album, “The Gold Experience,” along with a related line of products including a prophylactic labeled the Purple Raincoat.

Which must really make him want to scream

Michael Jackson’s latest album, “HIStory,” is living up to its name, dropping out of Billboard magazine’s Top 10 list after just five weeks on the charts despite a $30 million marketing campaign.

He’s trying to put the whole thing behind him

Michael Fay, who made headlines last year when he was caned in Singapore for allegedly spray-painting cars, is quietly working at Universal Studios Florida these days. “I just want to lead a normal life,” Fay says. “I want to make my own money, go to college - probably in Florida - and maybe get a business or marketing degree.”
