Stich, Ivanisevic In Final

At Los Angeles, second-seeded Michael Stich used his powerful serve-and-volley game to overpower Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland 6-2, 6-4 in a semifinal match of the $328,000 Infiniti Open tennis tournament. Stich will play Thomas Enqvist, who stunned top-seeded Goran Ivanisevic 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-4, in today’s final.

At Carlsbad, Calif., No. 4 Conchita Martinez routed No. 3 Mary Pierce 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the final of the Toshiba Tennis Classic. Today, Martinez will face No. 9 Lisa Raymond, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Sandra Testud.

At Kitzbuehel, Austria, local hero Thomas Muster beat compatriot Gilbert Schaller 6-2, 6-7 (7-1), 6-3 to advance to a final against Spaniard Alberto Costa in the $435,000 Austrian Open. Costa defeated Germany’s eighth-seeded Bernd Karbacher, winning 6-2, 6-4.
