Strap-Cap Is A Snap, Will Stay On Your Head
Product: Kavu Strap-Cap. Description: A reinvention of the traditional baseball cap made of 100 percent water-resistant treated cotton duck and nylon patterned webbing. Comes in regular and large. Available in tan, blue, green and black.
Pro: The cotton cap features quick adjustable webbing, no need to remove the hat to snug or loosen, and a generous bill with a dark color underneath so that it won’t reflect bright light back into your eyes. The bill is stiffened with plastic so it floats, something I really appreciated recently when my hat ended up in the drink while paddling on Lake Powell - it floated better than I did. Washable. Stays put on the head, even in high winds.
Con: The D-ring loop on the webbing, designed to make it easy to adjust the sizing with one hand while the hat remains on your head, also makes a superb branch snaring device. There have been times when, while beating through underbrush, the hat has literally been ripped from my head leaving me cursing and fumbling trying to relocate it in among dense foliage. I would replace the D-ring with a finger loop just sewn in the webbing.
Comments: I love this hat! During a recent 370-mile adventure race through the wilds of Utah, it stayed perched on my head sheltering me from sun, rain and shielding my eyes from windblown sand on occasion. It even managed to stay attached to my noggin through Cataract Canyon after our raft flipped in Big Drop 2 - no easy accomplishment since the force of the water ripped the sandals off my feet.
