Joel Hernandez Receives Eagle Scout Award

Joel Hernandez, 18, recently earned his Eagle Scout Award. His service project was to build picnic tables for the Lewis-Clark Early Childhood Program at Clarkston. He has been a Scout since 1989 and is a member of Troop 265. He is a graduate of Clarkston (Wash.) High School and plans to attend Washington State University in the fall to major in psychology and education. He is the son of Brenda Hernandez, Clarkston, and Pedro and Anna Hernandez, Nine Mile Falls.

Eagle Scout Tim Harnett and Life Scout Tom Buck recently traveled with 25 other Boy Scouts from the western U.S. to the World Jamboree in Holland. The group also spent four days in Copenhagen, Denmark, and traveled by train to Holland for the jamboree with its thousands of Boy Scouts from all over the world.

Harnett is a senior at Mead High School and the son of Tim and Rosemary Harnett, Spokane. Buck is a senior at Gonzaga Prep and the son of Roy and Marge Buck, Colbert. They are both members of Troop 258.

Melanie Preston, daughter of David and Ruth Preston, Rosalia, Wash., received the 1995 Continuing Education-Academic Scholarship by the Public School Employees of Washington Scholarship Committee. She is a junior at Seattle Pacific University studying art and history.

Brandy Tyson-Flyn is a recipient of the P.P.I. Association’s $1,500 annual scholarship for two years. She is the daughter of Beverly and Ray Tyson-Flyn, Post Falls, and will attend a Washington State University.

Dr. Robert Shaw, Spokane, recently received the Recognition of Outstanding Individual Efforts in Access to Dental Care Programming Award. The award was given in honor of his work aimed at improving access to dental care for children in Spokane through the ABCD Program.

Barry Curry, owner of Thrifty Car Rental stores in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, has been named one of the top 20 U.S. performers in the company’s franchise system. He earned a 10-day “Cradle of Civilization” trip to Greece and Turkey as part of the company’s sixth annual TRACStar competition, recognizing outstanding performance levels.

Denel Ingraham, a Lutheran Brotherhood district representative from Spokane, has earned Qualifying and Life status in the Million Dollar Round Table. Only 6 percent of the world’s life insurance agents qualify for the MDRT each year through high-level client service and production. He is associated with the Peter Mauritsen Agency.

Mary Hardung is Washington State Employees Credit Union’s Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter in 1995. A Loan Officer II in the Spokane branch, she was nominated for her exceptional member service and for volunteering to share her expertise with students at credit union chapters in Spokane.
