Abandoned Infant’s Mother Arrested
The mother of a 2-month-old girl with Down’s syndrome who was left abandoned at a hospital has been arrested, King County Police said Thursday.
The woman was arrested Wednesday night at the King County Jail. Police had received an anonymous tip that she would be picking up the father of the abandoned child at the jail, King County Police spokesman Jerrell Wills said.
“By the time King County detectives showed up, Seattle police already had her in handcuffs,” Wills said.
The woman, who was not identified, was booked into King County jail on unrelated traffic warrants, Wills said. A second child that was with the woman - a 15-month-old girl - was taken into protective custody.
The woman is homeless, Wills said, and had been living out of a tent for the past week in Federal Way’s Dash Point Park. Wills said King County investigators will look into the possibility of filing child abandonment charges against the woman.
