Continentals Will Visit Valley Fourth

Like music? Well, listen up.

Whether you want to hear or be part of a traveling musical production, tonight’s performance by The Continentals might be for you.

The venerable touring musical troupe is sending a group of 25 college-age vocalists and musicians to Valley Fourth Memorial Church, 2303 S. Bowdish Road. Its performance starts at 7 p.m.

Ed Wagnild, the church’s interim music director, says The Continentals have an ever-changing lineup.

More than one group tours the country at a time. That keeps the group’s material fresh and gives more young people a chance to take part.

After tonight’s show, the group will give any young people interested in joining next year’s tour a chance to show their stuff.

“They’ll audition people right on the spot,” Wagnild says.

Can’t make tonight’s performance? Don’t fret. The group will perform again at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 4224 E. Fourth. That performance happens Sunday during the church’s 10:45 a.m. morning service.

But if you want to audition, better hurry. Glad Tidings has no audition time scheduled following the performance.

Gymnast to speak

Ioana Ojog, 19, a gymnast and former member of the Romanian national team, speaks at Redeemer Lutheran Church Sunday at 7 p.m.

Church spokesman Sandy Anderson says Ojog’s story is one to flip over. He says she left Romania a few years ago because of her faith. She lived in Portland and recently moved to the Valley.

Her new foster father and coach is Bob Ito, former gymnastics coach for the University of Washington. Ito and his family attend Redeemer.

At Sunday’s presentation, she’ll talk about “a variety of things,” Anderson says.

The church is located at 3606 S. Schafer Road.

Youth mission service

Youth from Opportunity Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Sunday will share moments from their recent mission trip to Jamaica.

Last month, 22 high school students and nine youth leaders travelled to Jamaica. There, they spent eight days building a church and teaching Bible lessons in sign language at a school for the deaf.

The church is located at 202 N. Pines Road.
