Outdoor Performances Will Benefit City Gate

Joe Ehrbar Correspondent

Spokane’s Cry Manna and a host of other local Christian musical acts will play a benefit concert Sunday for City Gate at the Harvest House in Green Bluff.

The 7 p.m. concert is outdoors.

Cry Manna is a burgeoning regional talent that frequently appears as a support act at large Christian concerts. The sextet has opened for David Meece and the Newsboys, among others.

During May, Cry Manna garnered a hit on the local station KTSL with the song “Jericho.”

Also slated to perform are the Chris Merkling Band, Debbie Stintzi, Paul Rogers and Melanie Meacham.

People for Christ Ministry, which is sponsoring the event, will fire up the barbecue for a country barbecue. There will also be concession stands.

People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets or beach towels.

Gates open at 6 p.m.

Tickets, $5, are available at area Christian bookstores. Children under 6 attend free.

Scripture study group

The Scripture Share and Prayer Series, a Bible study for Catholics, starts up again in September.

The purpose of the series is for Catholics to learn more about the Scriptures and to spend time with people of the same faith.

When it first began three years ago, only a handful of people participated. Today, people from four Spokane parishes participate in Scripture Share and Prayer.

This fall, the series offers four classes, covering a variety of periods in the Bible: “Pentateuch,” “Paul’s Early Letters,” “Post Exile Prophets” and “Scripture Foundations.”

For more information, call Shirley Birchak, area coordinator, at Sacred Heart Parish, 747-5810 (after Tuesday).
