In Hindsight, It Was A Scrummy Thing To Do

Loose talk

Veteran British actor Patrick Stewart (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), on his television tastes (in Details magazine): “I adore ‘Beavis and Butt-head.’ It is an extraordinary, powerful and important piece of work. It also makes me laugh like a drain.”

British rugby star Will Carling is the latest unfortunate fellow to be romantically linked to Princess Diana.

But Carling’s wife, Julia, insists it’s all much ado about nothing.

“This has happened to her before and you hope she won’t do these things again, but she obviously does,” Julia Carling told The Mail.

“She picked the wrong couple to do it with this time because we can only get stronger from it. I am sad that Will put himself in that position and that the princess did as well.”

Will Carling, admitting he “made a mistake” by hanging out with Diana, added: “I have spoken to the princess since all this came out. She is sad about it and says it has happened to her time and time again. But it hasn’t happened to us before, and I never ever want it to happen to us again.”

Her life’s been about as far right as you can get

Phyllis Schlafly turns 71 today.

They keep getting clubbier all the time

Things are looking a little brighter for the former Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and her estranged husband, Prince Andrew. The couple flew to southern Spain over the weekend for a vacation with their two daughters, only days after they were pictured kissing affectionately at a celebrity golf tournament.

As long as they weren’t alone too much

Michael Jackson’s 10-person entourage during a trip to Disneyland Paris and then Switzerland last week included three children: boys aged 9 and 14, and a 12-year-old girl. There was no sign, however, of wife Lisa Marie Presley.

Poor Hugh’s often driven to distraction

Hugh Grant was fined $190 and came within a penalty point of losing his driver’s license after pleading no contest Friday in Exeter, England, to going 98 in a 70 mph zone last spring. His attorney said Grant, who previously had two drunken driving convictions and three speeding tickets, was “preoccupied while driving after working away from home all week.”

Suppose she can decipher the price list?

Divine Brown, the Los Angeles prostitute arrested along with Grant in his BMW in June, has been invited to appear in Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival next year aboard a float depicting sex rituals patterned after 17,000-year-old cave drawings.

He’s apparently trying to drown his sorrows

Convicted child killer Susan Smith’s ex-husband, David Smith, took time out from a tour promoting his new book about her by visiting Manhattan’s Scores strip club. Said a spokesman: “He was a nice guy. The girls liked him. He wanted to relax, unwind and have a good time.”
