Someone’s Always Airing The Dirty Royal Laundry

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Bonnie Prince Charles is royally, er, upset over “The Housekeeper’s Diary,” threatening to sue former maid Wendy Berry, who broke a confidentiality agreement to write the tell-all.

Highlights of the book, banned in Britain:

Only Charles’ valet and Princess Diana’s dresser were supposed to touch “the royal boxer shorts and panties,” although Berry sometimes handled them when unloading the washing machine.

Linens were changed “every five days,” or, “in Diana’s case, quite often, when they were caked in body makeup or full of crumbs and bits of chocolate.”

Diana once washed her own pan after making a warm milk drink, telling Berry, “I can do things like this, Wendy.” As for Charles, she said: “I don’t think the prince would ever wash a dish.”

Loose talk

Elizabeth Hurley, on inspiring both adoration and fear in men (in Details magazine): “I like being with people who keep me on my toes, so I like to keep people on their toes as well. I don’t like to think that I go through life terrifying everybody I meet, but it can lighten up an evening sometimes.” He must be about ready for 30-year-olds by now

Roman Polanski turns 62 today.

Way to keep a stiff upper lip, old chap

Artists at Madame Tussaud’s wax museum in London are rushing to complete a model of philandering film star Hugh Grant, in full evening dress, by month’s end. Said a spokesman: “The Hollywood business has made him even more famous and public interest has been enormous.”

No wonder Hugh has been pleading to her

Grant gal pal Elizabeth Hurley, who appears in a wedding gown in one of her new Estee Lauder ads (yeah, right), is playing a stripper in the film “The Spear” and a character called Miss Demeanor in the upcoming “Die Hard” spoof “Spy Hard.”

Success actually takes a lot of elbow grease

In the wake of viewer complaints, KXEZ-FM in Los Angeles has pulled television ads starring Divine Brown, the hooker who said she was listening to the station during her dalliance with Grant. A KXEZ official said, “In no way did we want … to lend any credence that the way to get ahead in this world is through promiscuity.”

He’s already proven he has nothing to hide

Rising country star Ty Herndon will talk about his June arrest for drug possession and indecent exposure and his attempts to put his life back together at 7:30 p.m. tonight on The Nashville Network’s “TNN Country News.”

Next on his list: Raymond Carver’s ‘Short Cuts’

John Wayne Bobbitt may be headed back to jail for falling behind in his child support payments. Shrugs Bobbitt: “I could use the break. I’ll kick back, read a couple books and take it easy for a while.”
