Stephanopoulos Holds Talks On Cyprus’ Fate
White House senior adviser George Stephanopoulos arrived Friday to discuss Cyprus and Turkey’s relations with the United States and Greece.
Cyprus has remained divided between Turkish and Greek sectors since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded the island following a Greekbacked coup.
Stephanopoulos will visit Cyprus and Greece during his two-week stay in the region.
Turkey and Greece have been at odds for year over certain issues, including Cyprus, Aegean airspace rights and sea-bed riches.
Stephanopoulos told reporters Bosnia-Herzegovina would also be on the agenda. During a visit here last week, U.S. National Security Advisor Anthony Lake won Turkey’s backing for a U.S. peace plan for Bosnia.
