New faces:

Janek Co. Real Estate Marketing, Consulting and Sales has added Sandra Bartel, Dick Mapes and Trudy McCann to its staff as sales associates.

Mark Besen has been appointed director of clinical services for Spokane Community Mental Health Center. Besen, who received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, is a former faculty member and director of psychiatric rehabilitation at Hahnemann. He also has worked as a consultant on human resource management to Fortune 500 companies.

Curt Hecker, former senior branch manager at West One Bank in Sandpoint, has been named executive vice president at Panhandle State Bank. A graduate of Boise State University and the Pacific Coast Banking School, Hecker has been with West One Bank since 1984.

Dallas Cartee has joined the staff at American Electronic Sign as a graphic designer. Cartee, a recent graduate of Spokane Falls Community College, will be designing the color prints for both the company’s commercial and traffic products.

Karen Maruyama has joined Washington Trust Bank’s Commercial Lending Division as vice president, business banking officer IV. She has more than 16 years in finance and banking.

Century Publishing Co. has added the following people to its managerial staff:

Hugh Mullane has been named human resource/safety director. A 20-year veteran of the Air Force, he received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University and has two years of experience with Humanix Personnel Services.

Lonna Linnell was hired as controller. Linnell, who graduated from the University of Montana, is a CPA. She has six years of experience with Price Waterhouse and two years as the controller of Jay Jacobs Inc.

Jennifer Demetre joined the company as chief accountant. She is a graduate of Gonzaga University and previously worked for the Coopers & Lybrand accounting firm.

The Spokane County Bar Association has hired Denise A. Lewis as Volunteer Lawyers Program coordinator. Lewis, who previously worked for the Transitional Living Center in Spokane, will oversee the association’s referral of civil legal matters of low income clients to attorneys on the program’s panel.

Scott Martin has joined Resource Computing Inc. as a systems consultant. He formerly worked for Clean Pro in Coeur d’Alene.

Monica Wasson has been appointed to the newly funded position of staff attorney at the Washington State Court of Appeals, Division III. Wasson is a 1977 magna cum laude graduate of Gonzaga University Law School and has been a law clerk at the court since 1978, working for now-retired judges Dal M. Green and J. Ben McInturff, and most recently for Chief Judge Philip J. Thompson.

Chad Galloway has been named vice president of finance and chief financial office for United Security Bancorporation. Galloway was formerly a senior internal auditor with Metropolitan Mortgage & Securities Co.

Dave Braucht has joined Resource Computing Inc. as senior systems engineer. Brauch is a certified NetWare Engineer and was formerly with Wismer Martin in Mead.

Moving up:

U.S. Savings Bank has named David Trott senior vice president and manager of its mortgage lending division, U.S. Bancorp Home Loans. He began his career with U.S. Savings Bank in 1985 as assistant vice president and manager of the bank’s Bellingham Home Loan Center. In 1993, Trott was promoted to vice president and residential loan manager in Eastern Washington and Idaho.

Nancy Goodspeed has been named vice president and general manager of the Spokane office of The Rockey Co. Goodspeed, who joined the public relations firm in 1994, previously served as executive director of Leadership Spokane and was an anchor and reporter at KHQ-TV.

Washington Trust Bank has promoted Mark Perko, commercial loan account executive, and Lori Horner, supervisor of corporate lending, to assistant cashier.

Starting up:

Debut Northwest, an entertainment production company, has opened an office in Spokane. Owned and operated by Wayne Larson, the business organizes national tours for foreign entertainment groups. In addition to promoting shows in the Spokane area, Larson also is producing the debut recording for a Seattle singer.

The Spokane Business Information Center has opened in the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce building, 1020 W. Riverside. A joint effort of the chamber, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Service Corps of Retired Executives, the center will help local residents to establish a small business or to enhance operation of an existing business. The center features a library of business publications and video tapes, plus seven computer work stations for on-line market research, cash flow analysis and financial statements. Call 353-2800.

Transactions:

Johnson Matthey Electronics and DuPont Electronic Materials have agreed to cross-license electronic materials technologies used in semiconductor packaging and hybrid circuit manufacturing. DuPont is providing Spokane-based Johnson Matthey Electronics with a worldwide license to manufacture, use and sell a specific silver-filled glass composition used in bonding semiconductor chips into mermetic packages. Johnson Matthey is licensing DuPont to produce, use and sell certain gold powders, gold pastes and dielectric pastes used in manufacturing thick-film hybrid circuits.

Elected:

Peter F. Stanton, president and CEO of Washington Trust Bank, has been elected president of the Washington Bankers Association. Stanton serves as a director of Washington Trust Bank and W.T.B. Financial Corp. He was elected president of the bank in 1990 and chief executive officer in 1993.

The Spokane County Bar Association has elected new officers and trustees:

Gregory A. Smith, president; Pamela J. DeRusha, vice president; Richard B. Kayne, secretary; and C. Mark Casey, treasurer. New trustees include: Commissioner Ellen K. Clark, Carl Hueber and Donald Westerman. Those serving their second year as trustees are Jennifer Boharski, James Craven and William Hyslop.

Gary LaRue, an Inland Power & Light Board of Trustee member, has been elected president of the Washington Rural Electric Cooperative Association. The association represents the legislative interests of nine electric cooperatives in Washington.

David Knecht of Prudential was elected president of the Washington State Association of Life Underwriters. James F. O’Connell, also of Prudential, was elected a national committeeman.

Al Berger owner and operator of Cunningham Studio of Quality Photography, has been elected president of the Spokane Professional Photographers Association.

Spokane Sexual Assault Center advisory board has elected Lori Nicol Bingham as president for 1995-1996.

The Spokane Airports officers for the 1995-96 term include: Charles Rohr Jr., chair; Orville Barnes, vice chair; and Raymond Hanson, secretary.

Dean Crump has been elected 1995-96 president of the Spokane Chapter of CLU and ChFC. Other officers include: Jim Bedard, vice president; Richard Nelson, treasurer; and John Kapek, secretary. Directors include: Edward Van Vliet, and Scott Cordell.

The following officers were elected for the 1995-96 term of the Inland Northwest Executive Network for Women: Marlen Waltermire, Dishman Dodge, president; Karen Valandra, Tomlinson-Black Realty, president-elect; Gemi Larsen, TRI Touch America, recording secretary; Carolyn McGregor-Hagle, Inland Audiovisual, corresponding secretary; Marilou Lewis, Inland Audiovisual, treasurer; Anna Fellin, A & B Printing, advisor; and Lea Noble, Humanix, director.

The Citizens League of Greater Spokane has elected new board members and officers. New board members include: Webster and Jean Anderson, Carol Darby, Alfred Heston, Christopher Hugo, Roy Koegen, Charles Morrison, and Chris Wright. The new officers are: Ginger Kelsh and Webster Anderson, membership; Tom Agnew and Chris Wright, issues; Chris Marr and Roy Kogen, finance; Terren Roloff and Chris Venne, communications and public relations. Linda Sharman and Cindy Algeo will continue as co-presidents of the League.

Certifications:

David K. Robinson Jr., a Coeur d’Alene attorney and mediator, has received an upgraded license to practice as a Certified Professional Mediator. Robinson completed additional specialized training in the field of advanced mediation techniques and dispute resolution, which lead to his CPM certification through the Idaho Mediation Association.

Harvey A. Meier, president of the Harvey A. Meier Co., a Spokane management consulting firm, has been designated a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) by the Institute of Management Consultants, which sets standards of competence and conduct for management consulting.

Chad W. Shelton has been named a Certified Professional Agronomist by ARCPACS: A Federation of Certifying Boards in Agriculture, Biology, Earth and Environmental Sciences. Shelton is a division agronomist for Western Farm Service Inc. in Spokane.

Scot Haug of New Horizons Computer Learning Center, has been registered in a Novell Inc. certification program. Haug will become New Horizons’ second Novell-certified instructor. The certification will allow New Horizons to expand its training programs and to accommodate expanded training in networking.

Kudos:

Gifford-Gifford Automotive Marketing, a division of g.b. Gifford & Associates of Yakima, Wash., recently received two first place PN-ANCAM awards for Best Commercial Ad Series on behalf of Capitol Chevrolet of Olympia. These awards represent outstanding achievement for newspaper classified display Advertising.

Interim Healthcare has been accredited with commendation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. This is the highest level of accreditation awarded by the commission, which lauded Interim for its “commitment to providing quality care to the people in its community.”

Lyle and Laura Beaudoin, who operate the Sir Speedy center at 501 W. Riverside, have earned national VIP (Volume Increase Percentage) recognition for monthly sales performance.The business enjoyed a 75 percent increase in sales volume from March 1994 to March 1995. To qualify for VIP honors, a franchisee must increase sales during a specified month by at least 30 percent over the same month the previous year.
