Toiling Round The Clock, Spike Gets On The Phone
Spike Lee, still looking for that big success at the box office, has turned to the Richard Price novel “Clockers,” which involves a cocaine-dealing teenager.
But he isn’t necessarily happy about it.
“I didn’t want to do a black gangster, hip-hop shoot-‘em-up in the drug genre,” said Lee, 38. “Myself and movie audiences are becoming fatigued with the drug movie. It’s time for it to die.”
His concession: He concentrates on the kid, a 19-year-old “Clocker” or “round-the-clock” dealer, instead of the detective, played by Harvey Keitel. The film is due in September.
Lee’s next feature is title “Girl 6” and stars Theresa Randle as a phone-sex operator. Co-stars include Madonna, Naomi Campbell, Debi Mazur, Halle Berry and the ubiquitous Quentin Tarantino.
Loose talk
Kirk Cameron, star of the television show “Kirk,” on the problems of having a show named after him: “I called the production office and they say, ‘Kirk!’ and I say, ‘Yes, how’d you know it was me?”’
These days he’d settle for a mere Pee-wee adventure
Paul Reubens turns 43 today.
Yeah, but they’ve found ways to make it pay off
“Beverly Hills 90210” star Brian Austin Green sweats a bit when his girlfriend and fellow cast member, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, does love scenes. “I don’t know anybody who could sit there and watch their girlfriends kiss another man,” Austin Green told TV Guide. “I’m sure Bruce Willis and Demi Moore still go crazy watching each other with someone else.”
And that’s why he wins those arguments in the movies
Speaking of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, things are decidedly feminine in their house “On any given day, there are 13 women in my house with the nannies and the cook and the friends of the nannies and the little friends of my girls and the other nannies of the friends of my girls,” the actor told the syndicated show “Extra.” “Thirteen women and me. I haven’t won an argument in 16 years.”
Chances are he was too afraid of her to faint
Is Roseanne’s husband, Ben Thomas, as tough as his longshoreman build makes him look? Not according to the sitcom star herself, at whose side Thomas sat as she delivered their son, Buck. ‘The doctor asked me beforehand, ‘Is your husband likely to pass out?”’ she said. “I thought he might, but he didn’t.”
Maybe he can use his influence to get the Dancing Itos
The smug demeanor of Dennis Miller, seems at odds with his just-announced gig as host for the 12th-annual MTV Video Music Awards, which will be held Sept. 12. Most past hosts have been a bit flashier. Roseanne, for example, opened last year’s show with a crew of dancing transvestites. Others hosts have included actor Christian Slater, comic Dana Carvey and Arsenio Hall.
