Chemical Exposure Center Opening In Seattle Hospital

A center for the research and treatment of workers and others exposed to chemicals opens Thursday at Harborview Hospital in Seattle.

The Center of Excellence for Chemically Related Illness was made possible by state legislation passed in 1994. The University of Washington’s Occupational and Environmental Medicine Program will operate the center through a contract with the Department of Labor & Industries and Department of Health.

Occupational Medicine Associates in Spokane and the Yakima Valley Farmer Workers Clinic in Toppenish will be affiliated with the center.

The Conference Board in New York announces results of its August survey on consumer confidence.

The Spokane branch of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court hosts an orientation for paralegals, managers and others interested in learning how the bankruptcy system works from 9 a.m. to noon on the third floor of the downtown post office, 904 W. Riverside.

Commerce Department releases new home sale figures for July.

Commerce Department reports second-quarter gross domestic product.

Thursday

Pig Out in the Park restaurant fair opens in Riverfront Park, running through Sept. 4. The annual event, featuring about 40 food booths, has become a major promotional opportunity for local restaurants.

National Association of Purchasing Management issues its monthly report on the manfacturing sector.

The Spokane Hispanic Business and Professional Association hosts its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cavanaugh’s Fourth Avenue, 110 E. 4th. Cost: about $6.50 for lunch and guest speaker.
