Hewlett-Packard Cuts Notebook Prices

Hewlett-Packard Co. said Monday it reduced some notebook computer prices by as much as 19 percent, less than a week after Digital Equipment Corp. cut prices on similar machines.

Hewlett-Packard said prices on the OmniBook 600 - its smallest, lightest portable computer, will start at about $2,080, down from about $2,600. The OmniBook 4000, with a bigger keyboard, more memory and color screens, will start at $2,190.
