EWU at Met Life Classic
Eastern Washington (0-2) of the Big Sky Conference takes on host San Francisco (1-1) of the West Coast Conference in the first round. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
At a glance: After losing its first two games against Pacific-10 Conference teams, Eastern Washington takes on a San Francisco squad that upset 18th-ranked Stanford 59-58 on Tuesday. Eagles off-guard D’mitri Rideout played well Tuesday’s 74-55 home loss to Washington, finishing with 12 points and seven rebounds. Inside, senior Adam Dean and freshman Mike Sims are gaining confidence while getting increased playing time during the absence of suspended center Melvin Lewis. Against UW, Dean hit 5 of 5 field goals and Sims finished with eight points and 11 rebounds. As usual, turnovers have doomed the Eagles (school record-tying 31 vs. UW). Injury has limited San Francisco guard Gerald Walker to just 1 minute.
EWU: Rideout and Curtis Porter, 12.0 ppg; Sims, 7.5 rpg; Brett Thompson, 2.5 apg. USF: John Duggan, 18.5 ppg; Zerrick Campbell, 14.0 rpg; Ryan Brass, 5.0 apg.

If you moseyed by UI coach Joe Cravens’ office in preseason, there was a reasonable chance that a video of Mississippi Valley was on his TV. Cravens was that concerned about the game, and he should be. The athletic Delta Devils had 29 offensive boards in their season-opening win over Jacksonville State. “That’s more than we got last year,” Cravens cracked. “They’re a team you should probably zone, but if you zone them, it opens the floodgates to the rebounds.” UI should have rebounding whiz Harry Harrison back from last week’s sprained knee. “We play 10 of our first 13 on the road,” Cravens said. “We need to establish a mentality of playing tough.”
Idaho: Reggie Rose, 13 ppg, 4 apg; Shawn Dirden, 21 ppg; Jason Jackman, 14 ppg, 11 rpg. Mississippi Valley State: Fredrick Haywood, 24 ppg, 20 rpg; Chris Smith, 13 ppg, 6 apg; Marcus Mann, 18 ppg, 14 rpg.
