Idaho State Falls Short In Tournament Opener

Keith Tate’s rebound basket with 20 seconds left gave Stephen F. Austin the lead for good as the Lumberjacks rallied for an 88-84 victory over Idaho State of the Big Sky Conference Friday at the Pizza Hut Classic in Springfield, Mo.
Javan Rouzan scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds for Stephen F. Austin.
The Lumberjacks (3-0) overcame a 13-point second-half deficit with a 24-8 run, capped by Craig Stallings’ 3-pointer for a 58-55 lead with 11 minutes left.
Nate Green scored 13 of Idaho State’s first 15 points and finished with a team-high 21.
Princeton 61, Boise St. 41
Brian Earl’s 18 points helped Princeton remain unbeaten as the Tigers defeated the Big Sky’s Broncos in the first round of the Fresno State Classic in Fresno, Calif.
Shane Flanagan led Boise State with 11 points.
Montana 87, Cal-Poly SLO 68
At Missoula, Shane Belnap came off the bench to contribute 18 points, 10 assists and five steals in the Grizzlies’ victory over the Mustangs in the opening round of the Missoulian Coca-Cola Classic.
The Grizzlies used an 11-0 run keyed by Shawn Samuelson and Brent Smith to take a 60-41 lead with 10:29 remaining, and Cal Poly never got closer than 11 points after that.
Weber St. 100, Texas Southern 88
At Forth Collins, Colo., Justyn Tebbs and Jimmy DeGraffenreid combined for 57 points to lead the Wildcats to victory over Texas Southern in the opening round of the Ram Classic.
Tebbs led Weber State (2-1) with 29 points, while DeGraffenreid scored 28.
Randy Bolden scored 38 points to lead Texas Southern (0-3).
Grambling St. 69, Pepperdine 62
At Lincoln, Neb., Claude Coleman scored 26 points and hit the go-ahead 3-pointer as the Tigers took control late and downed the Waves of the West Coast Conference in the opening round of the Ameritas Classic.
Santa Clara 79, San Jose St. 51
At San Jose, Calif., Steve Nash scored 17 points and the WCC’s Broncos (4-1) built a 22-point first-half lead on their way to a non-conference win. Roy Hammonds had 11 points for San Jose State (0-2).
