Mississippi Valley St. Survives UI Comeback

Shun Pearson scored 18 points as Mississippi Valley State defeated Idaho 63-61 Friday night in the first round of the Capital Bank Classic.

The Delta Devils (3-0) dominated most of the game and led 54-37 with 9:12 remaining. But the Vandals (1-1) rallied, closing the gap to 59-56 with 54 seconds left.

Anthony Davis hit a free throw to make it 63-59 for Mississippi Valley State with 8 seconds remaining.

Idaho’s Harry Harrison answered at the buzzer for the final margin.

Dendrius Rucker and Marcus Mann contributed 15 points each for Mississippi Valley State.

Reggie Rose led Idaho with 20 points, and Harrison scored 12.

Mississippi Valley State led 31-21 at halftime.

Host Southeast Missouri State used 23 points and 17 rebounds from William “Bud” Eley to defeat Troy State 109-91 in the second game.

Idaho will play Troy State in tonight’s consolation game.
