Arsceil Gage Spokane

Service for Arsceil H. Gage, 82, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gage, a former Coeur d’Alene resident, died Tuesday.

She was born in New York and moved to Malta, Mont., at a young age. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1929 and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1933.

She married Edward Gage later that year.

Mrs. Gage lived in various places in North Idaho and Eastern Washington before settling in Coeur d’Alene in 1963. She was a seamstress for many clothing stores.

She also taught ceramics in her home for many years and made dolls for the Children’s Village.

Mrs. Gage enjoyed sewing and crafts and was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Auxiliary, the Coeur d’Alene Rebekah Lodge and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Her husband died in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and Howard, both of Spokane; two daughters, Edna Johnson of Coeur d’Alene and Viola Grimes of Medical Lake; one brother, Ray Jones of Coeur d’Alene; one sister, Jean Buck of Spokane; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Zelnor Keck Green Bluff

Memorial service for Zelnor E. Keck, 86, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Green Bluff Community United Methodist Church.

Mr. Keck, a lifetime Green Bluff resident, died Sunday at his daughter’s home in Oregon.

He was a farmer and grew apples, cherries and strawberries.

He married Ethel McVicker in 1932. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Lois Keck of Tigard, Ore; one son, Roy Keck of Green Bluff; and one grandson.

James Sweitzer Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for James A. Sweitzer, 70, will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel of Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sweitzer, who was born in Clymer, Pa., died Thursday.

He moved to Post Falls from Pennsylvania in 1928. In 1943 he married Phyllis Klinetobe.

He worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood for 34 years.

Mr. Sweitzer enjoyed hunting, fishing and helping people and was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, at home; six daughters, Roberta Isbell of Nashville, Tenn., Linda Moore of Post Falls, Donna Fackler of Redding, Calif., Sandra Hendry of Hauser Lake, Idaho, Louise Lanoue of Missoula and Josie Ward of Coeur d’Alene; three brothers, Charles of Osburn, Idaho, Joseph of Centralia, Wash., and David of Shelton, Wash.; one sister, Mildred Sutton of Post Falls; two greatgrandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sarah ‘Sallie’ White Spokane < Memorial service for Sarah “Sallie” White, 64, will be private. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. White died Wednesday.

She was born in Pittsburgh and had lived in Spokane for 14 years.

She graduated from high school in Pasadena, Calif.

In Spokane she worked as a dietetic cook at Brighton Court Assisted Living for five years.

She is survived by two sons, James White of Saudi Arabia and Geoffrey White of Cheney; one daughter, Bettie Brumble of Spokane; one brother, Paul Bernhard of West Covina, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John ‘Bob’ Barker Tekoa, Wash.

Graveside service for John Robert “Bob” Barker, 68, will be at 1 p.m. today at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barker died Thursday at Tekoa Care Center.

He was born in Blanchard, Idaho.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Spokane.

Mr. Barker worked for his father as a logger in North Idaho and northeastern Washington.

He served in the Navy and returned to the Spokane area after his discharge.

He married Shirley Schudel in 1948 in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Barker re-enlisted in the Army in 1950 and retired in 1980. He had served as a motor-pool mechanic and as an orthopedic specialist building braces and artificial limbs in Army hospitals.

He served in California, Georgia, Germany and Vietnam.

After his retirement from the military, he worked as a diesel mechanic in Eastern Washington and worked for McCollum Ford in Spokane.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; one son, Dan Barker of Tacoma; one daughter, Deborah Close of Fircrest, Wash.; his stepmother, Vera Barker of Spokane; one brother, Donald Barker of Spokane; three sisters, Gladys Hershey of Waco, Texas, and Ann Collins and Patricia Sayler, both of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Fred Gilman Spokane

No service will be held for Fred F. Gilman, 75. Private cremation was held. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gilman, who died Tuesday, was born in Glen Ullin, N.D.

He had lived in Spokane for 36 years and retired from Teamsters Union Local No. 690. He had been a truck driver.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Winnie Gilman; one stepdaughter, Shirley Fisette, one stepson, Frank Levesque and one sister, Marion Hudson, all of Spokane; four grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

Winston Harder Spokane

Memorial service for Winston T. Harder, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Riverview Terrace Chapel. Private cremation was held in California, and Mr. Harder’s ashes were scattered over the Pacific Ocean.

Mr. Harder, who was born in Detroit, died Nov. 19 at his son’s home in Placerville, Calif.

He moved to Spokane from Los Angeles in 1980 after his wife, Dorothy, died. He lived with his twin brother, Wilfred “Bill” Harder, in Spokane.

During World War II, Mr. Harder served in the Navy.

Survivors include one son, Ralph Harder of Placerville; his twin brother, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Robert Tabor Spokane

Memorial service for Robert L. Tabor, a retired Air Force master sergeant, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Tabor, 63, died Tuesday.

He was born in Bramwell, W.Va.

He entered the Air Force in 1949 and served in Korea and Vietnam. After his discharge in 1969, he moved to Spokane and, in 1982, became the owner of A.J. Printing.

Mr. Tabor was a member of the Four Mounds Flying Club.

He is survived by his wife, Norieta Tabor; his mother, Charlotte Tabor of Rock Hill, S.C.; four daughters, Kathleen Cross of Freeman, and Virginia Olson, Lorraine Hickman and Elizabeth Hightower, all of of Spokane; one son, Charles Tabor of Veradale; one brother, Lance Tabor of Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters, Charlotte Morey of Fenton, Mich., and Patricia Tabor of Rock Hill; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Myrl Meland Garfield, Wash.

Memorial service for Myrl T. Meland, 78, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Garfield Community Center (service was moved from the American Legion Hall). Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Meland died Tuesday at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, Wash.

She was born in Tieton, Wash.

She married Dan Dvorak in 1938 in Spokane and they lived in Elberton, Wash. Mr. Dvorak died in 1966.

Mrs. Meland married Thorvald Meland in 1967 in Coeur d’Alene. The couple lived in Garfield. He died in 1983.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Rogers Bros. Seed Co. in Colfax for a few years. She had also been a waitress at Monte’s Tavern in Garfield.

She was a member of the Little Ole Ladies Club of Garfield.

Mrs. Meland is survived by three sons, Roy Dvorak of Garfield, Jim Dvorak of Spokane and Dennis Dvorak of Wapato, Wash.; two daughters, Darlene Hester of Spokane and Diane Carscallen of Potlatch, Idaho; five stepsons, Walt, John and Meryl Meland, all of Seattle, Dennis Meland of Hawley, Minn., and Richard Meland of Canoga Park, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Leslie Tyner Mesa, Ariz.

No service will be held for Leslie W. Tyner, 94.

Mr. Tyner, who was born in Indiana, died Monday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

He worked for Old National Bank, and retired from the Farm Credit Administration in 1965 after 35 years.

His wife of 65 years, Alberta “Babe” Tyner, died Nov. 9.

They had spent winters in Mesa for the past 35 years and during summers they lived at Hayden Lake, Idaho.

Mr. Tyner is survived by two sons, Alan Tyner of Mesa and Bob Tyner of Spokane; one daughter, Linda Wiebe of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Sarah Flake Spokane

Service for Sarah M. Flake, 69, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Flake, who was born in Curwensville, Pa., died Wednesday at Deaconess Medical Center.

She graduated from high school in Pennsylvania.

She had lived in Spokane for 16 years and was a volunteer coordinator at the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

She was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, Eriam Court No. 62.

Her husband, Daniel Flake, died in 1989.

Mrs. Flake is survived by one son, Danny Flake of Juneau, Alaska; two stepsons, Gary and Jim Flake, both of Oregon; two daughters, Christine Taylor of Anchorage, Alaska, and Lorraine Metier of Otis Orchards; two sisters, Pauline French of Curwensville and Dorothy Smith of Burlingame, Calif.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or the American Cancer Society.

Janette Perkins Spokane

Service for Janette Perkins, 84, is set for 1 p.m. today at First Untied Methodist Church, Lewiston. Burial will be at Normal Hill Cemetery. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, Lewiston, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Perkins, who died Sunday, was born in Marysville, Idaho.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education, with a major in special education, from the University of Idaho. She was honored with a certificate of recognition from Idaho Gov. Cecil Andrus in 1974.

Her husband of 49 years, Ralph, died in 1983.

Survivors include three sons, Louis and Donald Perkins, both of Oregon, and David Perkins of Spokane; two sisters, Celia Anderson of Oregon and Josephine Vann of Twin Falls, Idaho; one brother, Robert Mitchell of Oregon; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Hubert ‘Scottie’ Scott Spokane

A memorial gathering for Hubert “Scottie” Scott will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Wandermere Golf Course banquet room. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Scott, 70, died Tuesday at home.

He was born in Nora, Saskatchewan.

He left home when he was 18 to play hockey in Nanaimo, British Columbia. He moved to Spokane in 1946 and played for the Spokane Spartans hockey team from 1946 to 1947 and for the Spokane Flyers from 1948 to 1954. After leaving the Spokane Flyers, he was involved with youth hockey as a coach and also was involved with the Spokane Old Timers Hockey Association.

He worked for Good Business Forms Printing until he retired.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Scott; two daughters, Dianne Johnson and Laurie Berg, both of Spokane; two sisters, Nadine and Lela, both of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and five grandchildren.

Jean Rasmussen Spokane

Private memorial service for Jean E. Rasmussen, 69, will be at Cathedral Plaza. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Rasmussen, who died Wednesday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

She graduated from Rogers High School.

She was a secretary and had worked for Columbia Lighting and Spokane County and most recently for Deaconess Medical Center. She retired in 1980.

She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 51 Auxiliary and the Eagles Lodge No. 2 Auxiliary.

Her husband, Iven Rasmussen, died in 1970.

Mrs. Rasmussen is survived by one daughter, Sharon Nicholson of Snohomish, Wash.; two brothers, Russell Hicks of Whidbey Island, Wash., and Richard Howard of Orlando, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Vernice Gilbert Plummer, Idaho

Memorial service for Vernice Minnie Gilbert, 84, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Chief’s Chapel in Plummer. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gilbert, who died Tuesday, was born in Steptoe, Wash.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Plummer for 70 years.

She worked for the Plummer School District as a cook for 18 years and was a member of Chief’s Chapel and a sewing club in Plummer.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wheeler Gilbert; two sons, Dick Gilbert of Worley, Idaho, and Dennis Gilbert of Auburn, Wash.; one daughter, Romona Cato of Tekoa, Wash.; three sisters, Stella Willard, Artie Miller and Annie Dretke, all of Plummer; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Barbara Christensen Spokane

Visitation for Barbara Louise Christensen, 68, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 2 p.m. today at Rock of Ages Christian Fellowship.

Mrs. Christensen, who was born in Troy, Idaho, died Wednesday.

She married Don Christensen in Bancroft, Idaho in 1944.

Mrs. Christensen worked at Engstrom’s Studio in Lewiston and at Henle-Care Studio in Spokane. She had also worked at photo studios in Seattle and Portland.

She is survived by her husband, Don Christensen; one son, Michael Christensen of Seattle; one daughter, Beverly Cady of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
