San Francisco Hands Ewu 66-48 Defeat
Zerrick Campbell’s 16 points led San Francisco to a 66-48 victory over Eastern Washington in the first round of the MetLife Classic men’s basketball tournament Friday night at War Memorial Gym.
Campbell hit all five of his first-half field goals for 12 points as San Francisco (2-1), fresh off an upset of 18th-ranked Stanford, took a 36-27 halftime lead. M.J. Nodilo had nine points at the half, hitting all three of his 3-pointers. The Eagles led 12-10 with 11 minutes left in the first half when Nodilo started connecting.
In the second half, San Francisco’s defense kept EWU (0-3) in check.
“We just didn’t attack their zone very well,” EWU coach Steve Aggers said. “They’re really the first team that’s played a lot of zone against us.”
EWU committed 21 turnovers.
Guards Bryant Carter and Curtis porter led EWU with 11 points each. Travis King added eight points, hitting two first-half 3-pointers.
San Francisco meets Southwest Texas in tonight’s title game. EWU plays Hofstra at 5:30.
