Lc Holds Off Colville Behind Red-Hot Stillian

Sara Stillian scored 18 points, including several crucial baskets in the fourth quarter as Lewis and Clark held off visiting Colville 60-58 at Squinty Hunter Fieldhouse Tuesday night.

The Tigers (2-0) had a 13 point lead in the first half before three starters missed most of the second quarter with three fouls.

The Indians (1-1) closed within 31-25 at the half and then the foul-plagued LC players picked up their fourth fouls in the third quarter and Colville cut the lead to two entering the fourth quarter.

Stillian also had eight rebounds and Becki Huddle added 15 points.

Colville, got back into the game behind Heather Wood, who scored 22 points.

Alli Nieman scored 22 points, 14 in the first half as Sandpoint raced to a 35-22 lead, and the Bulldogs (4-0) went on to defeat the Indians (0-3).

“They have so much firepower,” Indians coach John Reid said. “Nieman just ran up and down the court.”

Sandpoint then outscored the Indians 21-11 in the third quarter to break the game open. Tanya Allamaras had six of her 14 points in the third quarter and Jenna Verby had five of her seven.

“Our girls played the whole game, never stopped,” Reid said. “We just have to develop some shooters.”

Jaime Smith and Erin Schumacher had 11 points apiece for for NC. Shannon Nelson had six rebounds.

Kelli Pilkington scored 17 points and held the Highlanders (3-0) together as they pulled away in the last 3 minutes to edge the Eagles (1-1) at WV.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball. Kiesha Sowers and Sherry Shollenberger combined for 25 WV points.

Leah Wilde’s 3-point attempt over two defenders at the buzzer bounced off the rim and the visiting Bulldogs (2-0) held on to beat the Greyhounds (0-3).

Brooke Hansen scored 20 points to lead three players for Colfax, which led 51-41 entering the fourth quarter. Wilde finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and seven steals for Pullman.
