Trash Cleanup Ordered At Home Site On Nora
A trash heap left at the site of an old house on East Cora Avenue was ordered cleaned up Monday night by the Spokane City Council.
The junk pile at 19 E. Cora includes pieces of a concrete foundation, construction materials, wood and other debris. The $3,450 contract to clean the property was awarded to Rob’s Demolition and approved unanimously.
After payment is made, the city can file a lien against the property for repayment.
The owner of the property, Vincent Dressel of 13517 N. Shady Slope Road, had received notice of the action by certified mail. He did not respond to the city’s request for cleanup, said Terry Clegg, codes administrator with the city.
“It may be a service for him just for us to get rid of it,” said Clegg.
Dressel could not be reached for comment.
Clegg said the property has been a source of concern to neighbors since 1988 when the city ordered a house on the property demolished for health and safety reasons. That work was done by a renter in an adjacent house and the debris was never removed. An old shed is unsafe as well and would be torn down as part of the contract authorized Monday.
Other debris has also shown up at the site. “Instead of cleaning it up they’re adding to it,” Clegg said.
The property is on a dead-end street with a steep incline on its north side. Complaints about the junk came from neighbors living on the North Hill who are able to see it from their yards.
