Cold Gu Falls To Montana State Gonzaga Struggles From Outside As Bobcats Prevail 58-56

From Staff And Wire Reports

Nico Harrison scored 12 points Thursday in Montana State’s 58-56 non-conference victory over visiting Gonzaga.

MSU (4-1) used an 8-0 run to grab a 52-42 lead with 2 minutes, 6 seconds remaining.

GU (2-2) found its touch from the 3-point arc, hitting its last three attempts in the final 24 seconds to close the gap.

“We outrebounded them by eight,” said GU coach Dan Fitzgerald of the 38-30 edge, “but we shot 8 of 24 from 3. (Jon) Kinloch, who’s supposed to be our best shooter, was 2 for 10.”

GU, of the West Coast Conference, shot just 37 percent from the field, while MSU of the Big Sky Conference shot 39 percent.

The Bulldogs trailed 26-25 at halftime but shot just 33 percent from the floor after the break.

“We’ve lost two games because of our inability to make open jump shots,” Fitzgerald said. “It was frustrating because we were in position to win it and just couldn’t make our shots.”

Scott Snider led GU with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kevin Williams added 10 points and Kyle Dixon had eight assists.

The Zags had won their last four games against the Bobcats and led the series 26-21. The teams hadn’t played in 10 years.

GU next travels to Cal State Fullerton for a Saturday non-conference game.

“They (Fullerton) had a great win at the buzzer on Wednesday night and they led UCLA (in an earlier game),” Fitzgerald said.
