Late Surge Sends Pilots Past Ewu

Kweemada King scored a game-high 26 points and Lamont Daniels added 18 points and nine rebounds as Portland defeated Eastern Washington 87-72 in Cheney on Thursday night.

The game was tied 40-40 with 18:38 remaining before the Pilots (4-0) took the lead for good with an 8-2 scoring run.

The Eagles (0-5) closed the margin to 60-56 on a free throw by Mike Sims with 12:06 remaining. But Portland extended its lead to 80-62 when Kasey Slicker capped a scoring run with a 3-point shot with 6:43 remaining.

The Eagles never threatened in the final minutes.

Eastern Washington jumped out to a 20-10 lead after 7 minutes of play. But Portland fought back to take a 38-34 advantage at the half.

D’mitri Rideout had a career-high 21 points and Curtis Porter added 20 for the Eagles, who outrebounded the Pilots 37-29.

Greg Klosterman had 13 points for Portland.
