Offering To Dead Sets Chinese Store On Fire

Compiled From Wire Services

Residents burning paper money for the dead set a department store on fire in northeast China.

No one was hurt, but damage to the store was estimated at $36,150.

Residents of Dalian, in Liaoning province, were marking “Ghost Day” Nov. 22 when people burn paper money as an offering for dead relatives, the Xinmin Evening News reported.

The weather turned windy and a gust picked up a flaming bundle of money from a nearby neighborhood and dropped it on plastic sheeting outside the department store.

The blaze ripped through the first floor of the store.
