Wolf Pack On Move Around Yellowstone
The pack of wolves that killed a hunting dog last weekend near Fishtail is on the move, said Yellowstone National Park spokeswoman Cheryl Matthews.
Tracks have been found near the Red Lodge ski area, which is about 20 miles south of Fishtail, and still about 30 miles from the park.
Matthews said biologists were trying to organize a flight to locate the radio-collared wolves.
The Soda Butte Pack killed a small dog trained to track mountain lions after it apparently pursued them Saturday. It marked the first time any of the 14 wolves transplanted to Yellowstone last winter has killed a domestic animal.
As of last Saturday, the other two wolf packs remained inside the park.
Plans call for bringing approximately 15 more wolves to Yellowstone this winter and a similar number to central Idaho.
