Yoke’s To Have Liquor Store And Hair Salon Added
A state liquor store, a hair salon and an expanded banking area are all planned additions to the Yoke’s Pac ‘N Save store at 15111 E. Sprague.
The grocery store itself will also be remodeled, said Jim Clanton, Yoke’s chief financial officer. The work is scheduled to begin shortly after Christmas, and should be completed around March.
The state will lease 5,000 square feet of space for the liquor store. It will be accessible from within Yoke’s and from the street.
Suzanne Lewis, a property specialist with the Washington State Liquor Control Board in Seattle, said the new outlet will replace an existing liquor store. Lewis said she isn’t ready to disclose which store would close.
The hair salon, Cost Cutters, is a national franchise that is new to this area, Clanton said. That 1,400-square-foot space will also be accessible from Yoke’s and from the outside. “They want to expand fairly quickly in the Spokane area,” he said.
Inland Northwest Bank already operates at the grocery store but needed to expand, Clanton said. The bank’s current 300-square-foot space is attached to the store but not actually inside it. Its new 900-square-foot space will be located inside.
Changes within the grocery area itself will be mostly cosmetic. “We will re-paint and re-light,” Clanton said. “Once we got started (with leasing), we figured we might as well remodel the remainder of the store.”
The store was last remodelled in 1991.
Pet supplier, Office Depot to open
PETsMART, an Arizona-based pet supply chain, and Florida-based Office Depot plan to open new Valley stores at Sprague and Evergreen next year.
The PETsMART will be east of the Safeway store that opened there this year. The Office Depot will be to the west of the Safeway store. The buildings will be constructed by Hawkins-Smith Development of Boise.
Ken Benoit, director of leasing for Hawkins-Smith, said construction of the 26,000-square-foot PETsMART location should begin in January, and should be finished by June. The 30,000-square-foot Office Depot store should start going up sometime in the spring, and is scheduled to open sometime in late 1996.
Cozette Wasserman, a PETsMART spokeswoman, confirmed the company planned to open a Valley store. Calls to Office Depot headquarters were not returned.
Unlike Office Depot, PETsMART is a newcomer to the Spokane market. The publicly-traded company touts itself as the largest supplier of pet food and pet supplies in the nation. It operates 258 stores in 32 states.
Taco Bell - times two
California-based Taco Bell plans to open two new restaurants in the Valley by spring of 1996.
One of the company-owned stores will be located at University and Sprague. The other is planned for the west side of Sullivan, just north of Sprague.
Laurie Gannon, a company spokeswoman, said both buildings will be about 2,000 square feet in size. Each store will employ between 25 and 30 people.
Taco Bell, a subsidiary of PespiCo, claims to to be the largest Mexican-style fast-food chain in the world. The company has some 4,600 restaurants in the United States.
