Chain-Reaction Accident Injures Four On Highway 2

From Staff Reports

Four people were injured in a four-car accident on Highway 2 west of Spokane Saturday morning.

Washington State Patrol troopers said Verne L. Landt slowed his car to make a left turn onto Coulee-Heights Road when Brandon L. Turner’s pick-up slammed into him from behind at about 9:40 a.m.

The impact shoved Landt’s blue 1986 Nissan in front of Gary E. Abraham’s on-coming truck.

Abraham swerved to miss the car and slid his 1987 Toyota 4-Runner down an embankment and into a field. Tom D. White, who was behind Abraham, slammed his red Subaru head-on into Landt’s station wagon.

Landt, 69, and Abraham, 52, were taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center. Landt, of Davenport, was treated for a cut to his head and a neck injury and released. Abraham, of Spokane, was listed in serious condition late Saturday.

Landt was not wearing a seat belt.

Turner, 18, and White, 21, were both treated by paramedics at the scene and released. Turner, of Davenport, had a cut on his head and a sore neck. White, of Twisp, was also treated for a head laceration.

Landt’s car, Turner’s 1982 GMC pick-up and White’s station wagon all were totaled. Damages to Abraham’s truck were estimated at $2,500.
