Bill Walsh Disciple Leaves Cfl To Take Over Rutgers’ Program
Terry Shea, one of Bill Walsh’s proteges, was named Rutgers football coach Wednesday.
Rutgers president Francis Lawrence said Shea signed a five-year contract that included a $150,000 base salary and $150,000 per year in additional compensation.
Shea, 49, comes from the Canadian Football League, where he was quarterbacks coach for the British Columbia Lions.
He formerly served as offensive coordinator under Walsh at Stanford and coached San Jose State to a 15-6-2 record, two Big West Conference championships and a California Raisin Bowl appearance in 1990.
Shea, who played quarterback at Oregon, replaces Doug Graber, who was fired Nov. 28 after failing to lead Rutgers to a bowl game in six seasons.
