Dollar Slips As Budget Talks Falter

The dollar weakened slightly against most leading currencies Wednesday after budget negotiations between President Clinton and congressional Republicans crumbled late in the day.

Efforts to rejuvenate the budget talks fell through Wednesday afternoon when the White House ditched plans for the second meeting in two days between Clinton and top House and Senate GOP leaders.

In late New York trading Wednesday, the dollar was quoted at 1.4400 German marks, down from 1.4410 marks late Tuesday.
