Martha Stewart Doesn’t Appreciate Buffalo Slings

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

Buffalo, N.Y., bills itself as the “City of Good Neighbors.” And here we thought it was most known as the only city that nearly rhymes with the words “shuffle off to.”

But however it bills itself, Buffalo is not a favorite destination of celebrity homemaker Martha Stewart.

In Buffalo on Dec. 1 for a book signing, Stewart fulfilled her 90-minute contract to attend a charity luncheon and then left. Trouble was, many of the 1,000 women who attended didn’t get their books signed.

Some leveled criticism as Stewart, who fired off a fiery response to The Buffalo News.

“I’ve been coming to Buffalo a long time, and I promise I’ll think long and hard before I accept another invitation to your chilly and downright unfriendly city again,” Stewart wrote.

Loose talk

“Nixon” and “JFK” director Oliver Stone on his next potential project (on American Online): “A movie on Gerald Ford. Perhaps when he stumbled, he was pushed.”

When they grow up, what do they want to be? Gee!

Maurice and Robin Gibb turn 46 today.

He was OK until he attended that ‘A Team’ reunion

One-time celebrity Mr. T is apparently ill. The actor of sorts, known for his roles in “Rocky 3” and “The A Team,” canceled a recent appearance in Manchester, England. A Palace Theater spokeswoman said, “His agent made it quite clear that Mr. T is very sick.”

Think ‘Boy on a Dolphin’ and a gloriously wet blouse

The quote: “I think I have an interesting face, but I think it is the ensemble … the body and the attitude that make me what I am.” The question: Who said it? The choices: Melanie Griffith, Tyne Daley, Michelle Pfeiffer or Sophia Loren. The answer: Loren.

Well, Allison will always be there to pick up the pieces

Oh, these modern marriages. Some marriages go, say, five months and experience no troubles at all. But others, such as that between “Melrose Place” star Andrew Shue and Jennifer Hageney, begin to fray after just two. Reports are that she resents his long days on the set. Funny, but didn’t she used to be his agent?

And he, like James Welch, cheered for the cavalry

In the forthcoming film “Cry, the Beloved Country,” Richard Harris’ role was built up to co-star status with James Earl Jones. And Jones isn’t particularly happy about it. “It’s assumed that white people won’t identify with any other than their own,” Jones said. “I went to John Wayne movies as a kid and walked out feeling like John Wayne.” > Judge cuts Bobbitt no break in sentencing

Because he has missed too many domestic-violence counseling sessions, John Bobbitt is heading back to jail. The ex-Marine, who initially gained fame in 1993 when his ex-wife cut off his penis (it was later reattached), had been convicted of beating his former fiancee, a topless dancer. He reports to jail in Las Vegas, Nev., Jan. 2.
