Boeing Lands Order From China Airlines

Compiled From Wire Services

China Airlines, Taiwan’s top airline, has signed a contract to buy up to $750 million worth of 737-800 passenger planes from the Boeing Co., the airline said Friday.

The contract with Seattle-based Boeing includes a firm order for six planes and options for another nine.

China Airlines expects delivery for the six plans to occur in late 1998. The nine optional aircraft would be received in 1999 and 2000.

The new 737-800 planes will substitute for 737-200s and Airbus A320s now running on domestic routes and short international routes.

The new aircraft will be powered by CFM56-7 engines developed by General Electric and SNECMA of France.
