Louisville basketball player Samaki Walker has been cleared to play today against Kentucky, but the university still is investigating circumstances of his receipt of a car. … Craig Berube of the Washington Capitals drew a 10-game suspension from the NHL for fighting with New York Ranger Nick Kypreos Dec. 18.

The Western Hockey League handed Regina’s Chad Wylchinski a one-game suspension for his actions Tuesday during a fight with Saskatoon’s Greg Philips. … Shawn Walsh, the hockey coach who led Maine to its first national title, said he intends to return to his job after completing a year’s suspension for NCAA rules violations. … Houston mayor Bob Lanier and Rockets owner Leslie Alexander are discussing a new 18,000- to 24,000-seat downtown arena.
