Ccs Women Win In San Diego
Brandi Hurlburt scored 13 points, including four down the stretch, to lift Community Colleges of Spokane past Mesa (Ariz.) College 57-48 in the first round of the Grossmount Holiday Classic in women’s basketball.
The win advanced the Sasquatch (6-4) into the quarterfinals, where they will play Dixie College of St. George, Utah, today at 4:30 p.m. Dixie’s record is 7-3.
Against Mesa, the Sasquatch never trailed and led at halftime 32-20. Mesa pulled to within five points at 51-47 with 5 minutes remaining, but CCS pulled away behind Hurlburt’s offensive burst.
Kelly Gaines led CCS with 14 points and Dani Fine added 12.
