Results Of Preliminary Traffic Studies Will Be Presented At Two Meetings

Bruce Krasnow Staff writer

Traffic meetings are set for tonight and next Thursday for two large developments in the Calkins area of northeast Spokane. Both meetings are follow-up sessions for the developer and engineers to present preliminary findings of neighborhood traffic studies.

The meeting tonight is set for 7:30 p.m. at Mountain View Assembly of God, 633 E. Magnesium Rd.

Developer Harlan Douglass is proposing commercial, industrial and multi-family uses on 185 acres north of Lincoln Road between Nevada and Crestline.

Plans include a shopping center, manufactured home park and light industrial area.

The Jan. 4 meeting involves an 80-acre project by Cedar Builders for 140 duplexes and 898 apartments between Cozza and Lincoln Road and Nevada and Crestline.

Both developers have hired Inland Pacific Engineering to do traffic analysis.

Inland Pacific planner Ann Winkler said 16 intersections are being studied and each project has to take into account development on neighboring parcels.

A third developer, Craig Condron, is also seeking approval in Calkins for the Bluegrass subdivision, 400 homes on 100 acres with space for a school and park. All three projects would be phased in over 10 years and need approval from the city hearing examiner.
