West Valley Boosters Will Take Your Tree
Before long, the Christmas tree that brought so much holiday cheer will bring instead brown needles. All over the carpet.
Don’t fret, though. The West Valley High School band boosters have a fix. For $3, band students and parents will recycle the post-yuletide trees. For $5, they will come pick them up. The fund-raiser will be held Dec. 30 and 31, and again on Jan. 6 and 7. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. all four days.
Trees can be brought to:
Arthur B. Ness Elementary School, 9612 E. Cataldo
Pasadena Park Elementary School, 8508 Upriver Drive
Centennial Middle School, 915 N. Ella Road
West Valley High School, 8301 E. Buckeye
Band booster Janis Langdon said the funds will go toward sending WV musicians to a May 1996 competition in Victoria, B.C.
“West Valley band hasn’t went on a big band trip for a long time,” she said.
How can a tree be recycled? Langdon said some of the band parents work at Washington Water Power, and will use one of WWP’s wood chipping machine to chop the wood into mulch. The company usually uses them to get rid of trees or branches that are too close to power lines.
As for the mulch, anyone who needs some can have it. “We’d like to sell the mulch,” Langdon said. If buyers can’t be found, Langdon said she’s open to other ideas.
