Gomez’s Shot Lifts Lewiston

Andrea Gomez hit a 10-foot jumper with 15 seconds remaining to give Lewiston (18-5) a come-from-behind win over visiting Sandpoint, 50-49, in an A-1 Region I Tournament game Tuesday at Lewiston.

The Bengals rallied from a seven-point deficit with 1:16 remaining to send the Bulldogs (15-7) home in the loser-out contest.

Laura Bloom had 14 rebounds for Lewiston, while Gomez added four assists.

Alli Nieman countered with 23 points for Sandpoint, but the Bulldogs shot just 19 of 51 from the floor and 10 of 16 from the line.

Lewiston will travel to Cascade and play the No. 3 seed from District III at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a berth to state.

Mario Chodorowski made a halfcourt shot at the buzzer as the visiting Blackhawks (5-11) stunned the Timberwolves (9-7) at Coeur d’Alene.

Before Chodorowski launched his winner, Bryan Kelly of Lake City made 1 of 2 free throws with 4 seconds left to tie the game. Scott Hoover had 10 rebounds for Lake City, which made 9 of 10 free-throw attempts.

Eleven players scored and the Trojans (14-3) forced 31 turnovers during their home win over the Lumberjacks (1-14).

Darick Pope had a game-high 11 points and seven rebounds for Post Falls, which rested every player for at least one half. The Trojans built a double-figure lead in the first half despite missing 21 of 30 field goals.
