Newsom, Memphis Top No. 23 Cincy
Rodney Newsom made 3-pointers and scored 23 points and Chris Garner hit four free throws in the final 37 seconds to lead Memphis to a 74-69 overtime victory over No. 23 Cincinnati on Friday night.
The Tigers (5-1, 16-5) moved into sole possession of first place in the Great Midwest Conference.
Regulation ended with the score 62-62 after LaZelle Durden of Cincinnati (5-2, 15-7) missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Cincinnati scored the first two baskets of overtime but had only three more points in the final 4:16.
Newsom was 8 of 16 from the field for the Tigers.
