Deutsch, Big First Half Trigger Cardinals

Saturday boys

Medical Lake rolled to a big first-half lead and defeated Lakeside 68-49 in a Northeast A League boys basketball game on Saturday.

Joe Deutsch led the Cardinals (9-5, 12-5) with 17 points and 18 rebounds. Teammate Dan Huston added 16 points and 11 rebounds, hitting 4 of 4 from the field in the first quarter.

Lakeside fell to 8-6, 11-6.

Freeman 78, Kettle Falls 72 After trailing the Bulldogs (4-10, 5-13) by five points at the end of the third quarter, the Scotties (9-5, 11-7) came back with a 22-point fourth quarter to get the win.

The Scotties’ Cory Oberst tied the game with a 3-pointer with 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter and then added two freethrows to stretch the Scotties’ lead.

Travis Goldsmith led the Scotties with a game-high 27 points.

Both teams finished in fourth place in their divisions. The Chargers face Curlew while the Hornets face Northwest Christian in the league tournament Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.
