Davis Gains Edge For Title

Scott Davis and Todd Eldredge, each seeking a third U.S. Figure Skating Championships men’s crown, were separated by nothing more than a slight misstep in the short program.

Davis, the two-time defending champion, used his Zorba the Greek routine to finish first with five judges. That was one more than Eldredge received for his routine to music from the film “Swing Kids.”

The difference might have been Eldredge’s bobble in footwork after hitting a triple axel-double toe loop.
