Snow Sport Report

Alpine skiing

A Freestyle Snowboardfest featuring halfpipe and slope-style events will be held this weekend at Schweitzer. Info: (208)263-9555. The U.S. and Canadian Ski Teams are competing this weekend in the downhill and Super G races at Big Mountain in Whitefish.

Nordic skiing

The Pan Handle Nordic Club Best Hand Poker Ski race will be held Saturday at

4th of July Pass. Everyone is welcome to join the 5-mile race, which begins at 12:30, regardless of weather. Info: (208)762-3225.

The last race of the season in the Methow Valley will be held this weekend. The Classic Relays will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Sun Mountain trail, and Sunday’s Freestyle event will start at 10 a.m. Info: (800)682-5787.

Trails at Mount Spokane were groomed Wednesday and are reportedly in excellent condition.

Snowmobiling

Trails in the south tri-counties area are muddy and icy and in desperate need of more snow. Unless a better base is established, Bead Lake will not be groomed again this season but North and South Baldy, Cee Cee Ah Creek, Squaw Valley and Solo Creek are still in decent condition. There’s still plenty of snow in the Methow Valley, and even though there was no new grooming this week, all trails are reportedly in excellent condition.
