Ferris Girls Rally Hard To Beat Lc

For a half, it appeared the Ferris Saxons were waiting around to see who they would play in the first round of the District 8 playoff in 10 days.

In the second half, they looked like a team ready for those Greater Spokane League girls basketball playoffs to start.

Friday night at the Coliseum, Ferris outscored Lewis and Clark 61-48 thanks to a 35-15 margin in the second half.

“I think LC just came ready to play and they just beat us (in the first half),” Ferris point guard Jayme Morrisette said. “We were a little slow starting, mentally we weren’t ready to play. I don’t know why.”

The Ferris front line gained control of the boards and Morrisette speeded up the offense and the Saxons took off.

The Tigers (3-11, 5-13), who lost the first meeting between the rivals by 16, opened a 15-point lead midway through the second quarter, but the Saxons (10-4, 14-4) cut the margin to five and trailed 33-26 at halftime.

Ferris inched back into the game and tied it at 37 midway through the third quarter on a basket by Morrisette and then took the lead when Emily Ireland swished a 3-pointer from the right corner on the next trip down the court.
