Nascar Fines Three

Compiled From Wire Services

Car owner Bill Davis, driver Randy LaJoie and crew chief Chris Hussey have been fined a total of $35,100 for having a hydraulic pump in their car to raise or lower the deck lid and the rear spoiler.

Davis was fined $25,000 and LaJoie $10,000. Hussey was hit with only a $100 fine, but was put on indefinite probation. A statement by the three said they would appeal NASCAR’s decision to the National Stock Car Racing Commission. No date has been set for that appeal.

By raising or lowering the entire trunk lid, which would also move the attached rear spoiler, the driver could conceivably give himself an aerodynamic advantage.
